Ein Kerem: A Hidden Gem of Jerusalem
Eduard Israel Tours
Tucked away from the usual tourist routes, Ein Kerem is a charming, picturesque, and slightly mysterious village waiting to be discovered.
While it is not mentioned by name in the New Testament, tradition holds that this is the birthplace of John the Baptist. It is also the site of the memorable meeting between Mary, the Mother of God, and her relative Elizabeth, the mother of John.
This sacred tradition, honored by all Christian denominations, has made Ein Kerem home to Greek Orthodox, Russian Orthodox, and Catholic churches, all within a small, historic area of the Holy Land.
Today, Ein Kerem is a beloved escape for both Jerusalem locals and visitors alike. Time seems to slow down here, as narrow streets, low houses tucked into lush greenery, cozy cafés, and vibrant art galleries create an atmosphere of serenity and charm.
