Prague Articulate · Prague

In the first 15 years of the 20th century, Prague was still riding the big wave of prosperity created by the industrial revolution and capitalism. However, something had changed since the previous era: Architecture grew strange and wonderful. Unfettered by the templates of historic styles, Prague evolved its very own brand of what came to be recognized throughout Europe as Art Nouveau; right up until WWI, introducing Architectural Cubism to the globe - drawing on inspirations ranging from Albert Einstein through Pablo Picasso down to the best thoughts that Modernity could muster. Practically every one of those structures has been beautifully maintained within Prague today, and many may be seen while taking part in our two and a quarter hours long walking excursion – together with some particularly significant examples. You’ll meet your knowledgeable local art historian/guide outside Praha Hlavni Nadrazi (Prague Main Railway station) which opened way back in 1901 then proceed directly towards seeing An Art Nouveau Synagogue followed closely after by visiting Mucha Museum showcasing global Art Nouveau designs located inside Obecni Dum (Municipal House), getting acquainted with Czech Cubism via arguably its premier example, namely breathtaking 'House of the Black Madonna', built in 1911... You're also going to witness various other notable edifices such as Banks designed purely according to principles of Art Nouveau style but equally impressive Department Stores & Hotels whose façades either subtly flirt with more radical modernist tendencies embodied by early exponents of Cubism OR else they boldly assert themselves using fully fledged expressionistic forms! During latter stage of said guided walkabout both yourself along with aforementioned expert companion shall utilize city transport services so we might reach vicinity beneath majestic medieval fortifications surrounding ancient Vysehrad Fortress housing several iconic pieces of mentioned above avant garde movement…and here comes end point of present journey too !
