Yiddish Tour : Le Marais Juif (The Jewish Marais)
ParisVu · Paris
What remains of Yiddish culture in Paris? Let's set out to discover one of the most well-known Jewish neighborhoods in Paris: Le Marais.
We will be guided through the symbolic sites of the Jewish Marais with ParisVu and our guide Robin. We will explore this district in the heart of Paris, shaped by successive waves of Ashkenazi and Sephardic immigration. Who were its inhabitants? How did they live? From Rue du Temple to the Pletzl, along Rue des Rosiers, the Synagogue on Rue Pavée, and all the way to the Shoah Memorial, we will journey through the history of Parisian Jews who shaped these places (Rashi, Dreyfus, Léon Blum, Florence Kahn...).
We will wander through its narrow streets, between Sephardic falafel restaurants and Ashkenazi bakeries. Together, we will admire the sites that still preserve the memory of their former residents. Finally, we will feel this vanished Yiddishkeit that now seems to be coming back to life in these very places.
A tasting of Yiddish pastries (non-kosher) will be offered during the tour.
