Angkor Wat Sunrise: 2.5-Day Temple & Tonle Sap Tour Day 1: Banteay Srei and Grand Circuit Heritage Pick up from your hotel between: 7.45 -8.00am (depending on your hotel's location). Drop off at your hotel between: 5.30 – 6pm. Today, we will explore some of the most fascinating temples located just outside Angkor Thom City. We depart our hotels around 8.00 am starting with a trip to Pre Rup Hindu temple which served as the royal temple under King Rajendravarman and it was consecrated either in 961 AD or early 962 AD. This unique temple features both brickwork, lateritic rock, and sand stone constructions that blend together harmoniously. Continue driving towards one of Siem Reap's treasures; the intricate carvings found within the beautifully preserved Banteay Srei complex. Its delicate bas-relief sculptures have earned recognition among experts worldwide as amongst the best examples of Cambodian craftsmanship. Access to Banteay Srei became possible again after the fall of the Khmer Rouge regime in the late 1990s. On returning to our route, next we make a brief detour to see the serene atmosphere surrounding the sacred waters of Lake Tonlé Sap through visits to the floating villages before continuing onwards to reach another significant historical landmark known as Neak Pean Temples situated on an islet amidst the tranquil water body called Jayatataka Baray where there stands a beautiful Buddha shrine surrounded by lotus ponds. In the latter part of the day, proceed to yet another impressive monument named Preah Khan whose ruins offer visitors not only breathtaking views of nature reclaiming its space over time but also provides insight into ancient architectural marvels created during the reign of 'the greatest temple architect', Emperor Jayavarman VII who had constructed these edifices in honor of his own father. Currently undergoing restoration efforts led by the World Monuments Fund, parts of Preah Khan still remain surprisingly intact providing tourists with contrasting experiences compared to other larger complexes like Angkor Wat.
