Trekking tour – With backpack and tent through Lapland (3–4 days)

NordTrek AB · Sorsele

Special features: The northern Kungsleden begins (or ends, depending on which direction you come from) in Hemavan. At 440 km, it is Scandinavia's longest long-distance hiking trail and one of the most famous trekking trails worldwide. The Kungsleden was established by the Swedish Tourist Association (STF) at the beginning of the 1920s to open up Lapland’s natural landscapes for hikers. Mountains and valleys alternate several times along the trail. July / August are peak walking months; this is when trekkers arrive from all over the world and there is more foot traffic through the cabins. The first section after Ammarnäs is characterized by a glacial valley that formed between the highest mountains of the Vindelfjällen Nature Reserve. Tour description: The tour starts in Hemavan. Initially, the trail runs upwards through birch forest but soon transitions to the valley of the Syterbäck stream. The next destination is the STF cabin called Vittarskalet. It pays off to stop here because they serve the best waffles in the region! Shortly after the cabin, you have to decide whether or not to include the tallest mountain in the nature reserve, the Norra Sytertoppen (5,608 ft), in your hike. If you choose to do so, cross left past Vittarskalet and follow the footprints uphill. A wide ridge leads to the summit where an old rest hut can be found just before reaching it. You descend northeast between two glaciers. Those who prefer to stay in the valley continue their journey through the enormous canyon...

Day hike in Swedish High Fells

NordTrek AB · Sorsele

Special features: An easy hike with a high mountain feel. Along the way there are grand views of the peaks of the Vindel River Nature Reserve. The mighty Gouletsbäcken waterfall lies at the edge of the path. Tour description: The tour starts at the parking lot Höbäcken north of the village of Ammarnäs. From here you lace up your hiking boots and put on your backpack. An old trade route that was used to exchange goods with Norway leads us first northward. Already from afar we hear the sound of the waterfall where the river Gouletsbäcken comes rushing down off the cliffs after coming from the highlands. After 3 kilometers we turn right into the undergrowth and ascend towards the waterfall initially cautiously. Later we reach somewhat steeper terrain. Above the waterfall time has come for our first rest. Our view allows us a magnificent vista over the highest mountains of the nature reserve Ammarfjället including the walls falling away southeastwardly of Stuvbiebáktie (1251 meters) and Suvlåjvvie (1352 meters), and in the background Vijjágáissie (1444 meters). After resting behind us remains the tree line; ahead stretches out the highland landscape. For some while longer we follow along beside the footprint alongside the Gouletsbäcken until this disappears within the vegetation of the highlands. In trackless country we veer southward eastwards crossing several streams. A little later before us appears the imposing suspension bridge across the Lisvuojuhka which soon afterwards we cross.
