Located at the edge of the Great Rift Valley, Debre Libanos ("Blue Nile") features a vast monastic complex situated atop terraces carved between cliffs overlooking the gorges formed by some of the tributary rivers that feed the mighty Abbay river system. Menegesha Suba National Forest Reserve & Wenchi Crater Lake Duration: One Day Established over 15 centuries ago by Emperor Zera Yakob, Menegesha suba was designated as a protected area due to its rich biodiversity. This reserve lies approximately 55 kilometers (around 34.18 miles) southwest of our nation's capital city; visitors can hike up to about 3,385 meters (roughly two miles) above mean sea level within the preserve itself. Here they may encounter ancient forests comprised primarily of native tree species estimated to be upwards of four hundred years old. Bird watchers are particularly drawn here given the presence of several rare avian inhabitants including the Abyssinian catbird and the Menelik bushbuck among others. Please note there is also the option to continue onward towards another exciting location known as Wenchi - travel time
