The museum comprises three sites: the exhibition building at ul. Warszawska 61; the Palace of the Dukes of Masovia in Ciechanów at ul. Zamkowa 1; and a branch – the Museum of Positivism in Gołotczyzna at ul. Aleksander Świetokrzyski 16 (a manor house and park ensemble); while the administrative office is situated in Ciechanów at ul. 17 Stycznia 9. Established in 1973 under the title "Museum of the Ciechanów Castle", this institution became known by its present designation in 1998. Its aim is to carry out scientific work connected with collecting, developing and making accessible material illustrating aspects of North Mazovia's culture, particularly those associated with aristocratic tradition.
