The Belvédère of Romeo, renowned for its panoramic views over the central Alps, the pre-Alps and lake Como, contains within itself an ancient place of worship which dates back to just before the year 1000 AD. Originally this site housed a small roadside oratory constructed with pilgrims' safety in mind; today Notre Dame de Ghisallo (Our Lady of Ghisallo) has become the Patron Saint of all motorcyclists.
