WAR MUSEUM WINTERLINE VENAFRO

On March 15, 2008, during the commemorative ceremony for the victims of March 15, 1944, the permanent exhibition “Winterline” was officially inaugurated in Venafro (province of Isernia), in the historic Palazzo De Utris (near the town hall). This unprecedented initiative is entirely the result of the passion and dedication of young professionals such as Luciano Bucci, Renato Dolcigno, and Donato Pasquale. The Winterline Venafro Museum is unique in its approach to construction. The founding members are joined by other enthusiasts such as Domenico Vecchiarino, Rosario Malfatti, and Andrea Ottaviano, creating what, according to all visitors, is more than a simple “collection of objects.” Its installation is, in fact, a true journey through time and the places of the Second World War in Venafro and the surrounding area. The displays, while also offering the opportunity to see all the original objects recovered by the association's members over thirty years of research, are designed to showcase the various phases of the Allied advance along the Winterline. Each scene follows a precise chronological and geographical order that recounts the history and the territory, starting from November 1943 on the Volturno River until the breakthrough of the Winterline in 1944 on the Mainarde. The exhibition is enriched with period photographs that depict the locations involved and recount the events that occurred.
