Rione Sanità - Sacred & Profane, Street Art and Social Regeneration

Around With A Local · Naples

Hi! I'm Valeria, born and raised in the heart of Naples, and I'll guide you through the Rione Sanità, one of the city's most authentic and fascinating neighborhoods. A place shaped by centuries of history, art, contrasts, and above all, rebirth. This experience goes far beyond classic sightseeing. It's a walk between the sacred and the profane, noble palaces and lively alleyways, street art and ancient traditions, but especially through powerful stories of urban regeneration and social change. Thanks to the energy of the local community and younger generations, the Sanità has transformed its challenges into creativity, resilience, and new opportunities. Along the way, you'll discover Porta San Gennaro, Palazzo dello Spagnuolo and Palazzo San Felice, murals dedicated to Totò, Massimo Troisi, and Eduardo De Filippo, Piazza Sanità, the commemorative statue of Genny Cesarano, the Basilica of Santa Maria della Sanità, the Blue Church of the Cristallini, and the Catacombs of San Gaudioso (external visit; entrance not included). This is not just a tour about Naples' past, but about a neighborhood that has rewritten its story through culture, sustainable tourism, and social initiatives. Perfect for curious travelers of all ages who want a non-conventional, authentic, and meaningful experience, and who love discovering places through the stories of the people who live there. Naples of Contrasts – From Vomero to the Spanish Quarters

Around With A Local · Naples

Ancient and complex, shaped by centuries of encounters between different peoples and cultures, Naples is a city of contrasts and paradoxes, sometimes difficult to fully understand. That’s exactly why this walking tour was created: to help you experience the city by observing its contradictions, moving between two completely different neighborhoods — the elegant Vomero and the vibrant Spanish Quarters. We’ll start from the Vomero hill, an area developed in the 17th century by aristocratic families, walking through refined streets such as Piazza Vanvitelli, Via Scarlatti, Via Cimarosa, and Via Luigia Sanfelice. From there, we’ll descend along the Petraio stairs, one of the most scenic and panoramic paths in Naples, offering breathtaking views over the city. As we reach the bottom, the contrast becomes clear: we enter the Spanish Quarters, a fully popular, folkloric neighborhood, full of life, voices, and authentic local energy. Many travelers ask where the “real Naples” is — for us, both are. Naples has many faces and shades, and this experience helps you understand them while enjoying the walk, having fun, and being surprised by unexpected views. Along the route you’ll explore Corso Vittorio Emanuele, the heart of the Spanish Quarters, and the iconic Maradona mural, symbol of the city’s passion and identity. A perfect experience for curious travelers who want to discover Naples beyond stereotypes, through its contrasts, stories, and unforgettable panoramas.

Pompeii: The Liveliest of the Dead Cities

Discovering Pompeii: the liveliest of the dead cities · Naples

Everyone knows the history of Pompeii and by now we know everything about ancient Pompeii. That’s why I want to begin with something we do not know about Pompeii. Few people are aware that Pompeii was once among Italy’s largest and wealthiest towns within the Roman Empire; few realize that agriculture—wine growing and olive production—was central to its economy, supplying these products across every country around the Mediterranean; very little attention is paid to how easily ships coming from places like Greece or Spain, Egypt or Turkey, would dock right outside our front door so to speak - arriving straight through *Porta Marina*, the grand gateway facing out towards the open waters – hence its evocative title! And did anyone ever stop to consider just how close Pompeii actually used to be to those same seas? The massive volcanic explosion of AD 79 pushed them some eight hundred meters away… So let me invite you instead to experience life here ‘through the eyes’ of sailors docking in such an affluent port town after long voyages upon the high seas... Prices Start From €250 For A Guided Tour Lasting Two Hours Thirty Minutes With Groups Of Between One To Ten People Or Increase By An Additional Hundred Euros Per Person When You Have Eleven Up To Fifteen Guests On Board Your Private Voyage Through Time Not Included In This Price Are Entrance Fees Which Cost Each Visitor Twenty Two Euro
