Făgăraş Mountain Ridge
French explorer Emmanuel de Martonne dubbed the Făgăraș Mountains, also known as the Carpathian Alps, a series of peaks, hollows, and passes spread over approximately 2,400 square kilometers. If you visit Romania for a mountaineering adventure, the Făgăraș Mountains have something to satisfy every desire—high-difficulty routes that challenge even seasoned climbers, breathtaking scenery, glacier domes, alpine lakes, and rare flora and fauna.

Day one: Start in Sibiu City – Săsciori village – Șaua Surului shelter (overnight camping or cabin accommodation based on weather conditions). Duration: ~6 hours | Elevation gain: ~1,000 meters | Highest altitude reached: 1,425 meters | Distance traveled: ~20km
Day two: Șaua Surului shelter – Lacul Avrig lake – Cabana Negoiu refuge (camping or cabana lodging dependent on weather). Duration: ~9 hours | Elevation change: ~600 meters | Elevations: 1,425m (Șaua Surului), 2,011m (Lacul Avrig), 1,540m (Cabana Negoiu). Total travel distance: ~30km
