Pompeii: The Liveliest of the Dead Cities

Discovering Pompeii: the liveliest of the dead cities · Naples

Everyone knows the history of Pompeii and by now we know everything about ancient Pompeii. That’s why I want to begin with something we do not know about Pompeii. Few people are aware that Pompeii was once among Italy’s largest and wealthiest towns within the Roman Empire; few realize that agriculture—wine growing and olive production—was central to its economy, supplying these products across every country around the Mediterranean; very little attention is paid to how easily ships coming from places like Greece or Spain, Egypt or Turkey, would dock right outside our front door so to speak - arriving straight through *Porta Marina*, the grand gateway facing out towards the open waters – hence its evocative title! And did anyone ever stop to consider just how close Pompeii actually used to be to those same seas? The massive volcanic explosion of AD 79 pushed them some eight hundred meters away… So let me invite you instead to experience life here ‘through the eyes’ of sailors docking in such an affluent port town after long voyages upon the high seas... Prices Start From €250 For A Guided Tour Lasting Two Hours Thirty Minutes With Groups Of Between One To Ten People Or Increase By An Additional Hundred Euros Per Person When You Have Eleven Up To Fifteen Guests On Board Your Private Voyage Through Time Not Included In This Price Are Entrance Fees Which Cost Each Visitor Twenty Two Euro

With this guided e-bike tour in your own language, you’ll have an even greater appreciation for the historical city of Naples—its plazas, castles, impressive monuments, not to mention its rich history, vibrant culture, and colorful atmosphere. Once you’ve chosen the best bikes for our group size and done some practice riding them, we’ll meet up at Neapolisolare Green Station, which sits right on old Via Spaccanapoli in the very heart of the historic district. From there, we’ll pedal down via Decumano Inferiore past landmarks like Piazza del Gesú, Piazza San Domenico Maggiore, and Piazzetta Nilo until we hit the coastline. Along the way, we’ll make short sightseeing stops so I can explain what we see around town. For example, near City Hall Square, home to Maschio Angioino Castle built back in the thirteenth century. Next, we’ll head over to grand Piazza del Plebiscito square to check out the columns outside the royal palace and visit one of the oldest continuously operating theaters in the entire world: The Royal Theatre of Saint Charles. After that, we’ll follow the seaside promenade all the way to Borough Marina, site of another famous local landmark known as Egg Castle or Ovo Fortress dating back to twelfth century times. There, we’ll learn about Mount Echia ruins believed to mark the spot where Greeks first founded their colony here under the name Parthenope. And while exploring these sites, don’t worry if my stories sound familiar because they might just remind you of tales involving sirens singing sailors ashore or Virgils legendary magic eggs! Finally, before heading off toward sunset, enjoy breathtaking views across Napoli Bay framed perfectly against the backdrop of Mt. Vesuvios smoking peak plus glimpses of Capri Island, lovely Ischia, and little sister Procidia waiting offshore...and after that? Well let me know when youre ready to keep going - theres plenty more amazing sights ahead!!
